Job Description

As a key member of the Retail Life’s product development team, this position plays a critical role in providing oversight for Retail Life's business. The position will work closely with the leadership of the MetLife actuarial community and the Retail Life Product area to provide direction for MetLife’s Retail Life product portfolio. This person will be specifically responsible for working in close partnership and present recommendations to leadership in other MetLife actuarial (financial areas). This person will also be specifically responsible for evaluating recommendations and reaching conclusions on new business returns and new product opportunities.
Principal Responsibilities

Responsible for all product modeling and new business feasibility analysis for all Retail Life products.

Provides leadership for Retail Life Product area, ensuring strategies which mitigate risk and provide consumer and shareholder value across all Retail Life products and distribution. Takes a lead role in the recommendation of new Retail Life Products that promote profitable growth.

Needs to be expert and accurately model all financial aspects of all retail life products. Needs to be expert in life product issues and actively monitor and recommend ideas for improving profits and growth.

Identifies gaps in our current retail life business model and researches potential opportunities to fill those gap.

Responsible for communicating the benefits and risks of retail life product line within Retail Life product area including leading extensive analysis of current products being offered.

Accountable for rationalizing risk across all retail life products and distribution channels, including monitoring assumptions, performance and experience.

Works closely with finance areas and other areas of IB to establish profitability targets and is responsible for hitting those targets.

Partners with Corporate Risk & Actuarial management to bring value-added changes to current actuarial processes.

Job Requirements

Must be an FSA and MAAA with 5 plus year product experience.

Extensive knowledge of core actuarial areas (ex: valuation, pricing, reinsurance structures, financial reporting, ALM).

Extensive knowledge risk management in the financial services industry.

Extensive knowledge of insurance products.

Must understand the business and technology as well as understand the interrelationship of both to achieve appropriate business solutions. In particular, must understand relationship of multiple administration systems to the general ledger and sub-ledgers.
