Job Description

Summary of Position Responsibilities:
The Capacity and Performance Engineer will take responsibility for analyzing, recommending and forecasting capacity and performance based on business demand and application requirements.
This engineer will lead the design and testing associated with complex infrastructure performance or capacity configurations for multiple engines, LPARs, applications, platforms, environments and performance/capacity tools or utilities on our MVS Z/OS v1.13 environments. The engineer will also lead engineering support for systems capacity problems, performance issues and outages.
This position will require a government approved background screening that verifies U.S. citizenship, education, negative criminal history and egregious financial history .

Principal Accountabilities of Position:
z/OS Performance & Tuning - Ensuring there are adequate system resources to efficiently run all MetLife mainframe workloads

This includes, but not limited to:
Monitor and report physical & virtual memory usage and setting.

Monitor all I/O hardware components to ensure optimal performance

Analyze and report peak mainframe processing periods (such as quarter/month end).

Mainframe Capacity Planning - Complete annual Mainframe upgrade forecast and iSLA

This includes, but not limited to:
Analyzing previous 12 months of data to establish a baseline

Analyze top mainframe consumers to establish a yearly growth pattern

Prepare Powerpoint documents to present forecast to management.

Workload Manager - Administration and support of WLM and Initiators

This includes, but not limited to:
Constant monitoring and report on all defined workloads to ensure that all goals are being met, workloads are not being delayed, and SLA's are not in danger of being missed.

Constant monitoring of the initiator structure to ensure that it is operating efficiently and that definitions are appropriate to handle the batch workloads

ISV Products – Help with administering software products required for the monitoring, analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of system/application performance problems

This includes, but not limited to:
Mainview Monitors (CICS, DB2, MQ, MVS, IMS)


Performance Problem Determination & Resolution

This includes, but not limited to:
Work with Operations, MBEE, other technical units, and Application Development teams to troubleshoot performance issues.

Work with Application Development teams to ensure ideal batch job performance during installs, new releases, and general nightly/weekly/monthly processing. Ongoing review of the automation that elevates the level of important batch workloads to ensure optimal performance.

Knowledge of performance tools, such as RMF, SMF, SAS, MXG, JCL and MAINVIEW to provide the above mentioned support.

Required Experience:
6 + years in a related field, either professional services or industry

Preferred Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.

Excellent analytical and research skills necessary to compile and analyze data.

Ability to develop and lead strong partnerships with business customers, peer groups and vendors.

Travel: 5 – 15%
