Job Purpose:
The objective of this role is to provide project management and data analytic support to develop, implement, monitor and adjust our credit risk strategies and ensure profitable growth of Barclaycard's consumer credit portfolios. These responsibilities may include acquisition strategies as they relate to credit risk in Western Europe, Entercard and Germany portfolios.

The business operates a "test and learn" culture where for each of our key credit risk decisions you may be asked to help with developing new challenger strategies, rolling out successful strategies to champion status, or timely deactivation of unsuccessful strategies.

Key Accountabilites:
Strategy design, implementation, tracking and analysis

: Ensure all strategies are aligned with strategic initiatives across the credit life cycle; maintain understanding of new and existing Customer Optimisation strategies. This accountability can be satisfied with rigorous understanding of the data sources, insightful application of analytical techniques, translating technical insights into actionable items for senior management, and presenting results in a clear and actionable format.

Credit Risk MI production

to understand performance of strategies against expectation and to ensure effective portfolio credit risk monitoring. Attend monthly review meeting with MI teams to ensure all trends are reviewed and appropriate root causes are identified. Perform any credit risk analysis to help explain the observed trends.

Stakeholder management / education

: presenting your analysis, conclusions and recommendations to management, including in country teams in a clear and concise manner. Liaising with IT / change implementation teams to ensure speedy implementation of strategies and communicating progress. Communicate proposed strategies to Risk Management Committee members. Be prepared to effectively manage challenge from stakeholders, ensuring minimal delay in achieving strategy sign-off and timely implementation.

Maintain effective relationships with key credit risk delivery (CRD) teams

to facilitate quick and robust deployment of new strategies. Manage feedback from CRD colleagues, ensuring lessons learnt from every strategy implementation to further improve speed of deployment for future initiatives.

Team collaboration

: Assist in knowledge dissemination across the team, particularly with regard to development of technical skills in strategy development and deployment, to further improve existing collective skill-set within the Analytics team



Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English language.

Ability to convert technical analysis into clear and concise business presentations detailing actionable items

Ability to proactively gather and act on feedback. Perform follow-up communications.


Strong commercial focus and good understanding of the profitability drivers for relevant consumer credit products (i.e., credit cards, loans, etc)

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong working relationships and effectively influence all levels of the business.

A passion for adding value to the business through the production of empirically sound policies and approaches.


High proficiency in SAS programming and ability to work fluently with various data sets. A desire to learn and use SAS macros for efficient data processing

Knowledge of basics of financial analysis such as net present value calculation and break-even analysis.

Solid background on the basic principles of statistical analysis and econometrics.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).

The successful candidate will have at least a Masters degree in a technical field or considerable experience in the retail banking industry. A business field with a strong technical focus is also acceptable.
