The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that all current and future electrical work is completed according to code, in a safe manner and with 100% accuracy. The person selected will assist in computer center design to ensure adequate power distribution to support all equipment at full capacity running on a continuous 24 by 7 basis. This person is responsible for and performs a moderate to large variety of duties in the electrical design, installation, maintenance and preventative maintenance of the Computer Room and Electrical Distribution systems at the Western Data Center. This effort also includes lighting, HVAC, Emergency power systems, security and badging systems, fire alarm systems and building and grounds maintenance. Installation of electrical outlets, PDU’s, power lines, and other apparatus will be completed consistent with data center needs and building codes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Knowledge of all facets of commercial electricity. A thorough working knowledge of the principles of electricity for high voltage/low voltage (120V single phase and 480V three phase). Must be well versed in local, State, and Federal codes and regulations having to do with electrical work. Ability to perform procurement estimation for materials and labor necessary for a particular job. Ability to interpret, organize, plan, and work from certified blueprints, non-certified blueprints, and oral instructions. Skill in the use, care, and procurement of tools and equipment necessary to electrical work. Initiates and performs preventative maintenance on all electrical systems related to the WDC. Should be experienced in utilizing a formal preventative management software package (e.g., Data Stream MP2 Preventative Maintenance Software). Will have a working knowledge of HVAC equipment and operation.
A limited North Carolina State Electrical License is prefered.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. ITS has a Career Banded compensation plan which encourages and rewards competency development. Recruitment for the position will target the Advanced Level of the Facility Maintenance Tech – Mech Trades Band. An additional year and a half of progressively related experience is required for each level above Contributing. Salary range for this position is $37,336 - $55,581 and will be commensurate with the applicant’s competencies, as well as budget, equity and market considerations. If no candidates are identified at the Advanced competency level, management may consider candidates at the Journey competency level. For purposes of State Promotional Priority, this vacancy posting will be treated as a salary grade Advanced 67 and Journey 65. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
