Position Type Full Time Posting Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

To resolve all outside plant service problems, including multiple, and/or complex repeat service issues, between the node and the tap. This position also assists Supervisors in providing, training, direction and support to Maintenance Technicians

Percent of time Function

  • 30% Troubleshoot and resolve outside plant issues, using forward and reverse test equipment, Toners, VOM, locator and Leakage detector, including all advanced features. Detect and resolve repeat plant issueS
  • 15% Partner with the service/install, Engineering/construction, TOC and Tier III groups to resolve multiple, and/or complex repeat service issues
  • 15% Educate customers on the use of all Company products
  • 5% Mitigate and resolve damage complaints
  • 30% Mentor, train and field certify Maintenance Technicians. Adjust resources, as well as provide direction and support to Maintenance Technicians as needed when a Supervisor is unavailable
  • 5% Ensure that the company vehicle is properly maintained and well stocked with the necessary tools and materials
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); zero to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Additional education and experience requirements include: Must successfully complete all Installer and Service Technician assessments
  • Must have minimum of 5 years solid, sustained performance in previous Installer and Technician positions or the equivalent
Communication Skill level:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
Reasoning ability:
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Supervisory / Managerial Responsibilities:
  • Assigns, trains, schedules or oversees work of others
Specialized skills:
  • Good communication skills are essential
  • Must maintain a professional image and adhere to all confidentiality standards
  • Must be proficient in all product installations, installation design, building materials and structures
  • A solid understanding of personal computers, networking, modem configuration, client software, hardware architecture, internet browsers and online tools is required
  • A working knowledge of the advanced features of signal meters, i.e. ping, packet loss, quam constellations, and error rates is necessary
  • Must have the ability to train and mentor others
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, etc., used to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license as well as a good driving record is required
  • Must be certified in ladder handling
Materials and Equipment used:
  • Test equipment including but not limited to: leakage meter, VOM, signal level meter, locator and return path tester.
  • Various power and manual hand tools and company vehicle (van)
Physical Requirements as they relate to essential functions:
  • This position requires the ability to climb a ladder, work at heights of approximately 32 feet, lift a minimum of 80 pounds 10 - 30 times per day and work outdoors year-round
  • Must be able to work non-core hours as needed and the on-call rotation as scheduled.
  • Must be willing and able to follow all safety standards
Travel requirements and frequency:
  • Daily travel to various systems within the Green Bay Division service area
  • May require occasional overnight travel
Legal or Financial Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for maintaining and safeguarding company vehicle, equipment, assets and services
  • Must adhere to all confidentiality standards
