Under minimal supervision and according to established policies and procedures, transports patients or equipment for hospital. Delivers patient stamper plate, 2 charts, to and from test areas and so forth to appropriate locations, picks up and stores supplies, and assists in maintaining a variety of noncomplex transportation related records including name of patient (or material) transported, arrival and departure times, problems encountered and so forth. Performs functions such as linen changes, cleaning stretchers and wheelchairs. Uses Patient Tracking computer system 100% of the day. Assists nursing with patient care before transporting as needed. Acts as a role model to other staff and trains new employees. Provides assistance to supervisor(s) on duty in the absence of department manager. Also performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Knowledge of transport competencies and departmental workflow and procedures
Education & Experience Required:
High school diploma preferred
Must have minimum of eighth grade level education
One year patient transport experience
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration Required:
Must have current certification in Basic Life Support
Physical Demands for Essential Functions of the Job:
Ability to maneuver, push or pull wheelchairs, stretchers and beds through obstacles in hallways and rooms, lifting, positioning patients weighing up to 500lbs with help when needed.
Ability to wear respirator in exposure situations and according to unit specific protocols
Must be able to squat to hook up I-meds, and place foot pedals down with ability to use both hands and feet simultaneously, while locking brakes and rolling equipment, etc.
