The Lead Specialist will support the final assembly and testing of locomotives in the factory. In this role, you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, have the ability to affect short-term and some long-term production goals, and define process improvements.
In addition, you will:
Troubleshoot software issues with locomotives in commercial test
Investigate factory floor issues regarding fit and function of components and assemblies
Troubleshoot mechanical and electromechanical issues
Resolve technical production issues on the factory floor in a timely manner
Coordinate with design engineering team to resolve issues and prevent future recurrences
Communicate production status with engineering program managers
Mentor less experienced factory support engineers
Lead the development of new processes and process development
Continuously improve the manufacture and test process of the product by improving the test methods and influencing the software design
Participate in model reviews with cross functional teams
Define new lean test methods and procedures
Lead the development and training of factory support engineers
Coordinate and work with lead production support engineers at alternate locations
Provide overall technical coordination and systems leadership for assigned programs or projects
Gain an understanding of the product from a macro level and understand the system and subsystem interactions
Work with the subsystems to assure all designs will integrate properly when applied to the overall system
Attend design reviews and provide input as the systems integrator
Understand trade-offs and work with program team to help come to a consensus
Work closely with Marketing, Proposal Leaders, and the Commercial team to insure all requirements (customer, internal, and regulated) are evaluated and flowed down to the design teams
Develop all necessary systems documentation for the program including requirements documents, configuration documents, and systems test documents
Manage the validation testing on the first production unit to insure that the product is validated and meets the documented requirements
Participate in the proposal process to assure that only sound technical solutions are offered to customers and the proposed designs are feasible
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 3 years of manufacturing or shop experience)
Minimum of 3 years of direct manufacturing, assembly, or test experience
Ability and willingness to travel, as required

Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Experience testing locomotives and troubleshooting software
Familiar with steel welding and fabrication processes
Familiar with cable and conduit design and assembly
Familiar with lean manufacturing methods
Knowledge of ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT)
Greenbelt Certification (GE employees only)
Solid oral and written communication skills
Methodical troubleshooter and problem solver
Self-starter / motivated / self-directed
