The E.W. Scripps Company is looking for a Director of Systems Engineering to be responsible for the stability and reliability of our corporate infrastructure and application servers. The position will provide direction to the Systems Engineering staff. The director will plan, develop, document, and manage the implementation of enhancements to Windows infrastructure, backup systems, and data storage systems.

Key Activities
  • Develop proposals for computer system and application standards
  • Provide mentoring to other administrators and engineers on technical issues and advanced tools
  • Lead discussions on system architectural design, procurement, and sizing
  • Responsible for developing, documenting, and implementing business procedures, checklists, and best practices for Windows technologies
  • Manage vendor relationships related to the Windows environment
  • Develop criteria for and perform vendor and/or system and application selections
  • Ability to work with IT customers from operating units and with other office personnel in person and by telephone in often stressful situations. Some moderate lifting may be required
  • Occasional overtime will be required
  • Responsible for developing future strategies as they relate to the Microsoft operating system, backup and storage systems, and supporting applications to enhance communications for increased productivity
  • Administer personnel functions such as attendance records, PTO and other excused absences, time sheets and training; conducting interviews and hiring and developing staff; executing performance evaluation program; and preparing staff plans to meet departmental goals
  • Develop and oversee staff's continued professional development, ensuring highest quality of service is provided
  • Coordinate all activities of the Systems Engineering group with all affected operating units and Corporate departments
  • Perform other duties as needed, and as directed by supervisor
Education and Experience/Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree and MCSE certification required
  • 8 years senior level experience in a enterprise level Microsoft based network environment required
  • 5-plus years experience designing, planning, and implementing Active Directory 2000 / 2003 and Exchange environments for medium to large sized organizations
  • Experience with HP and/or Dell server experience desired
