Scope of Position:|
Plan, direct, and continually improve Lean Manufacturing activities at HCF. Implement Lean concepts such as 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, load smoothing, & one piece flow in order to improve performance in quality, cost, delivery, morale, & safety. Communicate and work with corporate, other Corning locations, and outside agencies to establish similar goals/objectives, promote best practice proliferation, and ensure inter-plant consistency of systems and procedures. Develop and implement systems, procedures, and projects required to successfully accomplish departmental, plant, and corporate goals and objectives.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Clearly communicate the Lean group’s philosophy, vision, & expectations. Develop & sustain a tiered strategy & process for the hiring, training, and development of all HCF employees regarding lean concepts. Develop & implement a strategy for a self sustaining lean program. Assist in development of measurement systems that support lean manufacturing philosophy. Lead value stream mapping exercises to identify & document opportunities to improve the business (Current & Future State). Develop & execute project plans in order to achieve the Future State. Direct the planning and implementation of Kaizen related continuous improvement activities. Facilitate leadership and others “going to gemba” to truly understand & implement improvements. Develop & implement sustainable 5S, visual control, Point of Use (POU), Load Smoothing, Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), & Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programs at HCF. Facilitate these efforts within assigned areas as needed. Facilitate the planning and implementation of workplace flow & layout, as well as equipment installations, modifications, and moves according to Lean concepts. Document work done & results achieved. Develop & update standards as changes are made. Ensure PDCA cycles are followed. Identify & horizontally deploy benchmark opportunities and develop partnerships with appropriate parties. Plan and achieve department budget objectives for expense and capital items.
Travel to other Corning locations as needed including potential international travel. Estimate this overall travel to be less than 15%.
BS degree in engineering
Required Years and Area of Experience:
3 to 5 years of industrial, process, or equivalent engineering experience. 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Self motivated individual with a history of delivering positive results through continuous improvement. Strong "Change Agent" with demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to work in team environment. Strong Process focus with attention-to-detail abilities, problem solving skills, & ability to facilitate teams to a desired end result. Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods, systems, and production processes. Working knowledge of personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, & database management.
Background & knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts. Previous supervisory experience. Ability to motivate & build consensus. Skills related to space planning & layout (e.g. AutoCAD, blueprints).
