The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn) is one of the three campuses of the University of Michigan. UM-Dearborn, a comprehensive university offering high quality undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education to residents of southeastern Michigan, and attracts more than 9,000 students. Faculty and students have the opportunity to collaborate across all three campuses in research and scholarly activity. UM-Dearborn is located ten miles west of Detroit and thirty-five miles east of Ann Arbor. The campus is strategically located on 200 suburban acres of the original Henry Ford Estate in the Greater Detroit Metropolitan region.

Job Description:
The Office of International Affairs is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach English as a Second Language classes during the Fall semester (September-December, 2012). Some of the major duties for this position will be as follows:
Provide high quality English language instruction for international students seeking admission to higher education degree programs.
Create course syllabi and lesson plans following the ELP established curriculum guidelines. Integrate a variety of sound instructional methods and technology into daily classes.
Create and implement student-centered, task-based activities into each lesson. Integrate language lab based tasks into course curriculum.
Produce relevant and reliable assessment tools and conduct routine assessment to evaluate student progress throughout the semester.
Carry out final assessment for each course which reflects the material taught throughout the semester.
Provide constructive written feedback on students' progress at mid-term and end of the semester conferences. Maintain student progress and attendance records. Maintain the ELP mission and policies. Initiate daily communication with the ELP Academic Coordinator regarding students' progress and concerns. Qualifications:
Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field is required. Several years' experience in working in a higher education environment is preferred. Candidates with positive teaching evaluations and demonstrated excellence in the classroom are highly sought. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in second language as well as experience living and/or teaching English abroad. Applicants must have exceptional fluency in spoken and written English. Excellent interpersonal communication, written communication, and student service skills are required. Applicants must have exceptional organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong cross-cultural communication skills and experience working in a diverse environment are required. Ability to work independently and contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a team. Ability to handle communications, information, and data with sensitivity and confidentiality is required. Ability to follow University policies, rules and administrative procedures relating to student services. Experience in working in a higher education environment. Member of professional associations such as TESOL or MITESOL. Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is desired. Ability to multitask, adhere to deadlines, and adapt to changing demands and priorities.
