The Department of History and Political Science at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure-track Lecturer position to begin September 2013. The successful applicant will teach both halves of the Western Civilization survey, with special focus on the second half. He/she will also teach a variety of upper-level courses in modern European History, with a preference for ability to teach women and gender in European history, and perhaps World War l and ll. The work load will be four courses per semester. This position also includes some undergraduate student advising of History majors, and service to the Department (or major), University and community. The successful applicant will teach courses on both the Portland and Gorham campuses. Ability to teach online is desirable but not required.

Qualifications: Required: a Ph.D. in History and evidence of successful college teaching. Preferred: Evidence of commitment to diversity, student success and active learning, and community engagement.
