non-exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; full-benefits

This position is responsible for performing clerical and secretarial duties for the District Court Division of the State’s Attorney’s Office. Supervision is received from the Chief of the District Court Division and the Legal Office Associate Supervisor.

Examples of Work:
  • Compose and/or type memorandums, letters, and reports
  • Assist with the processing of pleadings and other legal documents for assigned cases
  • Perform office reception duties; provide information to the public and/or refer to other staff members in person, electronically, and/or via telephone
  • Update and maintain manual and computerized files and filing systems
  • Receive, sort and distribute incoming interoffice and postal service mail
  • As needed, perform various clerical duties necessary to office operations (photocopy, file, prepare mailing labels, stuff envelopes, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of secretarial work experience
  • Word processing and spreadsheet experience or training, specific to MS Office Suite software
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain detailed files and references
  • Ability to effectively complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Discretion and good judgment in working with sensitive information; ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, attorneys and others in the judicial system, law enforcement offers and agencies, and the general public
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR :
  • Work experience in a law office or legal system environment
  • Work experience in a criminal prosecution or criminal defense environment
