The Town of Los Gatos is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity available for a full-time Librarian and multiple as-needed Librarians. The Town’s Library is an amazing 30,000 square foot, two-story LEED Gold facility that houses a children’s area, teen’s “tree house”, history room, periodical room with fireplace and contemporary art. The Town’s Library is a vibrant center for life-long learning and a bustling community gathering place.
The Librarians will join a team which prides itself on providing welcoming and efficient service to all library users, in a fast-paced environment. With the assistance of industry experts, the Library staff identified Customer Service Values that guide library service with a strong community focus.
The full-time Librarian position is mainly focused on youth services--conducting collection development, coordinating family programs, providing stoytimes, participating in outreach efforts, staffing the children’s information desk, and assisting in other divisions as needed. The as-needed librarians are focused primarily on customer service and reference at both the adult and children’s information desks.
The ideal candidate will have positive customer service skills, be a strong team player, work well in a fast-paced environment, have a solid history of community-focused and innovative programming; have experience working with various forms of technology (including Apple products and open source systems); be comfortable instructing patrons in the use of both print and digital materials; and be flexible in scheduling and work assignments.
Qualifications: MLS or MLIS from an accredited university. One year of full-time experience working in a busy, public library environment is desirable.
Special Requirements: Willingness and ability to work rotating and irregular shifts, including nights and weekends.
Work Conditions: Work in a library environment directly with the public; sustained posture in a standing, walking, or seated position for prolonged periods of time; perform lifting, crouching and pushing; some positions may include prolonged usage of computer equipment.
