Responsible for providing reference assistance to York County Library patrons. Assists patrons with research and activities and independently performs research for reference requests. Assists patrons with inter-library loan transactions, fills requests from other libraries, and proctors distance learning students. Participates in the selection of materials for adult and reference collections. Instructs patrons in the use of automated catalog, electronic indexes and other reference materials and equipment. E xercises tact and courtesy when working with the public both in person and on the phone. Hours of work are normally Monday and Wednesday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm, Tuesday and Thursday 12:15 pm - 9:00 pm, and Friday 9:15 am - 6:00 pm.
Bachelor's degree and public library experience desired, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of basic library procedures, methods and techniques helpful.
Personal computer experience using Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet necessary.
Must have good organizational skills and be able to deal with the unexpected.
Must be able to work a continual floating schedule as needed.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including office equipment such as computers, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, microfiche machines, etc. Work involves some lifting of boxes of books and/or periodicals, and pushing, and pulling of a hand cart or other type of cart.
