The Library Technician STEPS position in the Federal
Depository Unit will assist with all collection management activities involved with the Centers of Excellence that the UK Libraries have committed to so far. This will involve working with the Federal Regional Depository Collection in both Young and King Libraries. This may involve any of the following activities or other duties as assigned:
1) Assist with our work on the ASERL (Assoc. of SE Research Libs.) Collaborative Federal Depository Program (CFDP). This work will involve receipt and processing of titles acquired for the WPA and Appalachian Regional Commission collections. Tasks may include but are not limited to SuDoc number verification, analysis of condition, identifying items that still need digitization, preservation of damaged pieces, editing of Voyager records, etc.
Work may also involve inventories of various portions of the SuDoc collection that reflect "centers of excellence" (COEs) at other ASERL libraries. The work with non-UK COE agencies will involve verification of SuDoc numbers and an inventory of holdings for each agency.
2) Assist with management of and problem-solving for our ASERL needs and offers process. Work will involve reviewing of offers and needs matches in ASERL Disposition Database to identify materials we need to claim for our SuDoc collection.
3) Other technical service duties as assigned.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Attention to detail, neat handwriting, familiarity with OCLC and MARC cataloging records, familiarity with Microsoft Office software, especially Excel. Dependability, initiative and accuracy are three important characteristics for success in this position.
