As part of the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), BPL is seeking a Library Technology Specialist for the Stone Avenue Branch. Under the guidance of the Library Circulation Supervisor (LCS), the Library Technology Specialist (LTS) is responsible for promoting effective use of technology in eight (8) targeted branches. The LTS will deliver technical support to patrons and staff and offer computer based programs and workshops to the public. This position will devote 60% of their time assisting patrons with the new laptop loan program and 40% of their time devoted to digital literacy trainings. The LTS works closely with the Technology Resource Specialist (TRS) as part of the branch team to provide quality public library service to the community. This is a grant funded position, funded through August 2013 .
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing customer service and helping the staff and the public with technology related problems
Provide the following workshops: Beginning and Advanced Internet Functions, Introduction to Electronic Resources at BPL, Social Media, Technology and Health Literacy, Consumer Awareness, Online Resources for Job Readiness, and Online Tax Forms
Responsible for helping the public use the new branch laptops & train staff to use the technology that is available in the branch
Answer, evaluate, and prioritize in-person requests for assistance from users experiencing problems with hardware, software, networking, and other computer-related technologies
Interview user to collect information about problems and leads user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error
Assist with the evaluation of hardware and software to determine the ease of use and whether the product will aid user in performing work
Assist with the creation and revision of user training manuals and procedures
Train users on software and hardware usage on-site
Skills & Qualifications:
High school Diploma or general education degree (GED)
Three to six months related experience & training
Advanced proficiency in using both Windows operating systems and commonly used software applications including: Microsoft Office Applications, the library’s electronic reference resources, Millennium, and the Internet
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Must be able to manage multiple tasks & Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
Ability to work with a diverse customer base
Ability to work independently
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
