Under the direction of a Principal or a Dean of Students, plan, organize, coordinate and provide library services in an assigned junior high school or high school library; purchase and catalog books for library collection; check books and materials in and out at the circulation desk; process and circulate library materials and audio visual materials and equipment; process and shelve library materials; assist students, teachers and staff in the selection of library and audio-visual materials and equipment; assure students and teachers have access to library materials for classes, assignments and recreational reading; provide introduction to the library and its layout; train and provide work direction to student workers and assigned staff.
Minimum Qualifications Required to Apply:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years college-level course work in Library Science and two years increasingly responsible library experience including some budgetary experience and at least one year in a school environment.
Plan, schedule, coordinate and provide library services independently at an assigned junior high school or under the Dean of Students at the high school; schedule and coordinate library activities in accordance with various time tables and school programs; promote student use of the library for research and reading pleasure. Research and complete purchase requisitions for the purchase of books, magazines, audio-visual equipment and other library materials; obtain authorized signatures; process new books, periodicals and pamphlets for the library; balance and maintain budget records for the high school library. Check books, periodicals and materials in and out at the circulation desk; operate a personal computer to scan bar-coded books and materials; process returned books and place in appropriate shelf location. Research, purchase and catalog new books, videos, equipment, films and magazines for the library collection; maintain related budget records; weed the collection of outdated or damaged books; dispose of books according to established procedures. Operate a personal computer to produce form letters, such as overdue notices, and to maintain reading lists and subject bibliographies for teachers and students; assure proper operation for daily activities; communicate with various computer support personnel regarding malfunctions and current software. Assist with textbook processing; check in, check out and maintain textbook inventory. Train and provide work direction and guidance to student workers to assist with circulation, processing, shelving, filing, library displays and other library activities. Assist students in locating and selecting desired or needed books, periodicals, pamphlets and materials from book shelves or with the use of reference materials, the card catalog or subject bibliographies; maintain the card catalog in an orderly and complete condition. Conduct basic library orientations at the beginning of the school year and as needed; explain and demonstrate to classes and individuals the location and basic use of library materials, the card catalog, biography section, Dewey Decimal system and other resource materials.

Assist students, staff and others in locating and utilizing library, audio-visual equipment and materials and textbooks. Apply and explain library rules, regulations and policies. Read, interpret and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Process a variety of library materials. Train and provide work direction to others. Basic operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques. Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplications and typing. Type at an acceptable rate of speed. Maintain library in a neat and orderly condition. Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately. Work independently with little direction. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Maintain records and prepare reports. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
