This position is located at Lanesboro Correctional Institution. This position provides routine practical nursing work in the care and treatment of patients under nursing supervision within a state correctional facility. Work includes assisting the RN by participating in nursing assessment in accordance within the Board of Nursing scope of practice and by utilizing written policies and procedures. This position screens patients and obtains pertinent medical data, collects vital signs and specimens, administers/interprets TB skin tests, assists the RN and Physician as needed, administers medications, observes and records pertinent information and responds to emergencies. Individuals may be required to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Technical Knowledge : skills in preparing and administering medications; general knowledge of proper dosage, effects and contraindications and in the operation of general and specialized equipment.
Consulting/Advising : Ability to provide feedback and guidance/counsel to nursing staff on the care rendered to patients.
Client/Customer Service : Ability to work as a team player with multidisciplinary healthcare staff, facility and custody staff, administer medications timely and accurately, and deliver services in an organized and methodical manner. Communication : Ability to present information effectively with a wide range of individuals including inmates, family members, staff, facility management, and medical professionals, and document subjective and objective data, action taken and plan of care.
Preference will be given to candidates with one (1) year of experience as an LPN, good computer skills, and experience working in a correctional setting.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
