We're looking for a positive, energetic and talented Life Skills Trainer who is willing and able to teach young adults the skills that they will need to live a better independent adult life. As youth leave the foster care system, Life Skills training prepares them with the basic day-to-day skills that they will need to have.

This position offers the opportunity to meaningfully and directly contribute to the lives and futures of teens in foster care. It provides the challenge of making classes and the learning environment, functional, fun, and impactful.

This position requires travel to teaching locations over a 30 county area of central Texas. (Teaching locations include Waco, Goldthwaite, Bryan, Lockhart, Round Rock, Killeen, Austin.)

The LifeSkills Trainer must be able to teach two evenings each week until approximately 8:30/9:00 PM and some Saturdays from 9:30 AM until 3 or 4 PM (not including travel). Also, regular work hours Monday-Friday. (40 hours/week)

DUTIES

The general duties...
  • Provides educational services to youth, including teaching, tutoring and training, while adhering to program curricula
  • Administers vocational/educational assessments as needed or requested.
  • Leads group/classroom discussion and activities, including field trips.
  • Meets with individual clients, as needed, to establish a safe, healthy relationship for learning, problem-solving, and participating in community activities; makes referrals and coordinates client services with community agencies, as appropriate.
  • Prepares documentation of plans and activities to ensure compliance with contracts, and agency requirements.
  • Responsible for the primary supervision of youth engaged in services.
QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRES a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; One (1) year full-time experience in working with Youth delivering classroom training. Must have two (2) years experience working with youth and be knowledgeable in group facilitation.

Must have CPR/First Aid certification or be able to obtain upon hire; Must have a valid Texas Drivers license, vehicle liability insurance and a clear driving record.

Per Department of Family and Protective Services contract, must be at least 21 years of age.

PREFERRED Experience working with youth in the foster care system; Skilled in creating and implementing relevant classroom activities, knowledge and facility with utilizing community resources for student education.
