JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Light Duty Mechanic

Reports To: Shop Foreman

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location: Sterling, CO

Summary: Performs repairs, maintenance, and service on all electric, diesel, and gasoline company vehicles and equipment. Maintains accurate maintenance records and performs DOT inspections to keep equipment in compliance. Educates drivers on how to perform pre-trips and maintenance items. Schedules external repairs for equipment as required and approved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs including use of engine diagnostic equipment.

Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.

Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.

Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.

Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.

Reads and understands operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings as necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment.

Installs new ignition systems, changes or recharges batteries, and replaces transmissions and other parts.

Overhauls gas or diesel engines; tests to ensure operating efficiency.

Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and makes adjustments.

Cleans, lubricates and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.

Fabricates special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.

Cleans tools and working area.

High and low voltage electrical trouble shooting and repairs.

Performs other routine duties such as building maintenance, equipment hauling, and equipment operation.

Education/Experience:

Minimum of two years related experience

Must have knowledge and skills required to perform U.S. DOT vehicle and brake inspections and adjustments.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid Driver’s license with clean driving history

Class A or ability to obtain within 60 days

ASE Certified preferred

Work Environment:
