This position is a 20-hour position with partial benefit. Health insurance is not available with this position

Under general supervision of the Library Superintendent, the Literacy Coordinator c oordinates the Literacy Program and assists in the operation of the Library as needed.

Essential functions:
1. Maintain computer records for literacy materials; 2. Recruits students needing help with reading and volunteer tutors to instruct them; 3. Monitors tutors; schedules training for tutors; provides training for Laubach tutors; 4. Submits monthly reports to Literacy Coalition and Sterling Public Library; 5. Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations. 6. Operates a computer utilizing such software programs as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; 7. Enter and maintain written and computer records of literacy collections, inventory, and contact statistics using software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets and databases; 8. Maintains confidentiality of data and information; 9. Prepares grants to fund literacy program;

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Standard of customer service delivery practices and procedures sufficient to be able to process various types of in person/phone contacts associated with customer service duties;
Innovative interfaces online computer systems; routine software and business applications, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases;
Networking and a computerized/automated library system;
Reference materials and resources; library operations and functions and children’s and adult programming;
Interest in books, subject areas, authors, and literature and reader interest levels;
Literacy Program and Literacy Coalition;
Educational computer programs and placement testing methods;
General library principles, methods, and procedures;
Phone systems, computers, and electronic data processing;
C a sh register operation, dealing with money, receipts and deposits;
General office procedures sufficient to be able to ensure proper operation;

Reading level;

General clerical methods/procedures EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Education : Associate’s Degree or equivalent; Experience : Two (2) years preferably in a Library setting. Special Requirements: Possession of the appropriate CO operator’s license for the type of City owned vehicle which the employee may operate in the scope of employment
