BROOKLYN FAMILY DEFENSE PRACTICE, BROOKLYN DEFENDER SERVICES SEEKS LITIGATION SUPPORT ADMINSITRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Brooklyn Family Defense Practice (BFDP) is a high volume interdisciplinary law office of Brooklyn Defender Services, which advocates on behalf of low income families in family court and helps them get the benefits and services needed to keep families together. BFDP's Administration Department seeks a highly motivated and energetic administrative assistant who works well with colleagues and is comfortable in a very fast-paced environment. Under the leadership of BFDP's Director of Administration, the department provides administrative support to teams of attorneys, social workers, and parent advocates.

The litigation support position will be responsible for coordinating family court intake schedules, obtaining needed medical and school records for court cases, drafting and following up on subpoenas, writing letters to clients, tracking orders, managing data on our Case Management System and assisting attorneys with filing motions and papers. Administrative staff are expected to deal professionally with clients, staff and outside professionals.

Qualifications: A college degree is required. Successful candidates will have excellent computer, administrative, and organizational skills, including strong knowledge of Word and Outlook and knowledge of Excel. Candidates should also have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to multi-task and work as part of a team. Prior office experience, preferably in a law office, is required. Bilingual ability in English and Spanish preferred.

Salary is based on experience and qualifications.
