Locomotive Service Technician

Reports to: Supervisor Division: M- Bar-D

Location: Chicago, IL

JOB SUMMARY:

Safely operate locomotive service trucks. Provide locomotive servicing according to company procedures. (Similar to quick service operation “Jiffy Lube”, but mobile and for Locomotives)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Set up and track pre-employment screenings and report results.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspection of assigned truck
  • Ensure truck is loaded with all required supplies and safety equipment
  • Ensure all water, oil, and sand tanks are filled
  • Communicate with other shifts at turnover
  • Perform servicing according to locomotive servicing schedule
  • Operate truck in safe manner, following all rules and procedures
  • Follow all safety procedures, including wearing all appropriate PPE
  • Complete all required reports
  • Maintain good communication with Dispatcher (team leader) and MIC
  • Be knowledgeable on all rail yards in service areas: schedules, routes, safety rules, and contacts
  • Provide locomotive servicing according to established procedures
  • Follow all company and applicable railroad policies and procedures
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Maintain good housekeeping of equipment and site
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Standing, walking, bending, reaching and twisting for extended periods are required to perform basic functions. Occasional sitting.
  • Walking on uneven ground
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Able to climb up and down a ladder
  • Ability to wear all required PPE
ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Work in mainly outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Extreme hot and cold temperatures
  • Exposed to dust and wind
  • Exposure to exhaust from locomotives and trucks
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Class B CDL with Air brakes (driving 10%-20% local) Straight Truck
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Team player
  • Self motivated
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organizational and paperwork skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work 12 Hour Shifts including nights
  • 24/7 - 365 day facility; no set schedule
