The position is responsible for developing strategy and processed for the effective receiving and storage of goods including the identification of critical spares for the making and process of steel as well as the shipment of finished goods. The incumbent will be responsible for executing an approved plan to accomplish the objective of minimizing total costs in areas of responsibility.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position is responsible for receiving and storage of goods used in the making and processing of steel as well as the shipment of finished goods in a timely, economical and efficient manner.
Qualifications for this position include a broad background with a minimum of five years in Logistics. In addition, incumbent must be proficient with the use of a personal computer and should possess knowledge of manufacturing operations, sourcing, knowledge of current logistics techniques and logistics systems.
The incumbent must be a self-starter with the ability to initiate business, and possess strong negotiating, communication, math and problem-solving skills. Must have the ability to function both effectively and independently as a member of a cross-functional team. High ethical standards, leadership and a strong work ethic are also key attributes. This person should be comfortable and effective at managing, training and motivating staff members.
This position’s primary responsibility is the timely and cost-effective requisitioning of local goods and services to support the production plans of ArcelorMittal Georgetown. The incumbent must maintain a current and thorough knowledge of appropriate local markets and competitive practices. Through contact with planning, the incumbent assimilates scheduling information to determine supply/demand conditions in relation to the needs of the mill. Adjusts quantities and expedites delivery schedules for purchases in accordance with each month’s buying plan.
A key responsibility will be collaboration with other members of the management team to develop the processes and to achieve best available cost, quality, reliability, continuity and delivery. The incumbent will review and assess vendor capabilities and past performance.
The incumbent will keep plant and corporate management abreast of local market conditions and will work closely with Maintenance and operations associates to minimize overall material costs and inventories.
This position also serves as a liaison between mill personnel and suppliers. The candidate will provide commercial information to assist in analyzing inventory requirements and constraints on a monthly basis and remain aware of any changes in schedules that will impact requirements. The candidate will take remedial steps needed to support operations in response to changing conditions. Regular periodic evaluation of Min/Max levels will be made. This position plays a crucial role in the reduction of inventory throughout the site by working with suppliers to monitor, regulate, and liquidate materials.
Candidate must be knowledgeable in logistic systems and procedures used throughout the site and assist in resolving any problems that may arise with vendors. Candidate must actively coordinate any such issues with appropriate administrative and accounting personnel. In addition, the position must coordinate and make recommendations pertaining to the most practical implementation, development and use of the computer system.
à Provide full support for the implementation and management of Safety In area of responsibility.
à Participate in all Major and Serious accident/incident investigations.
à Provide necessary training and tools to supervisory personnel to administer Safety In Action system.
à Participate in routine safety activities including PPO’s, Layered Audits, visibility tours and safety meetings.
à Ensure that work rules are posted in all work areas.
