Matheson Inc. is currently looking for a Logistics Manager to join our Corporate Office located in Sacramento, CA.

The Logistics Manager position is responsible for the implementation and execution of process management and accomplishes total customer satisfaction in all facets of logistics operations.

Expected Results:
  • Increase equipment and driver utilization.
  • Management of all areas of transportation to include safety, transportation, DOT regulation, compliance, P&L responsibility, distribution and customer service.
  • Management of assigned direct reports to include employee relation issues, performance management, new employee training and development.
  • Increase equipment and driver utilization.
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Matheson Control Center (MCC).
  • Develop comprehensive driver training program
  • Manage compliance with all DOT, DOL, Hazmat and other regulatory agencies
  • Develop strategic advantage for Matheson regarding new USPS initiatives i.e. Area Wide & Consolidation/Deconsolidation projects
  • Ensuring flawless execution and adherence to pre-established customer critical success factors.
  • Analyze existing contracts/lanes for missed opportunities to cross-utilize assets
  • Identify alternative revenue streams using existing or additional assets
  • Identify opportunities to utilize alternative transportation
  • Assist Trucking Maintenance to further develop efficient preventative maintenance schedule
  • Track and analyze asset CPM to measure success of utilization and maintenance programs.
  • Develop and document enhanced MCC processes
  • Identify opportunities to centralize driver scheduling and performance management
  • Develop comprehensive driver scorecard and accountability process
  • Identify opportunities to better utilize current software
  • Develop structured weather monitoring process and driver shut down policy
  • Identify opportunities to close gaps between planned asset use and actual.
  • Develop or enhance training programs to eliminate gaps discovered in current driver training process.
  • Utilize online training software
  • Develop online driver orientation process
  • Implement formal driver observation program to monitor training effectiveness
  • Continue to evaluate training effectiveness and develop improvements as required
  • Become expert in all DOT, DOL, OSHA, Hazmat requirements for the organization
  • Ensure all required communication with regulatory agencies is accurate and timely
  • Manage requests for compliance information and or records
  • Execute internal audits to ensure compliance with outside as well as company requirements
  • Identify potential gaps in regulatory compliance and initiate corrective action
  • Become expert in new USPS initiatives
  • Develop asset utilization strategies that give Matheson a competitive advantage in pricing
  • Identify dynamic routing software and accompanying processes
  • Utilize Lean strategies for efficient asset utilization
  • Quantify ROI of proposed projects
  • Assist in RFP development for new projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Logistics or Transportation or 8 (eight) years of combined college and/or relevant equivalent work experience is required.
  • Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies and understanding preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years of training, policy development and supervisory experience required.
  • Experience with warehouse and or software applications, routing and dispatch software systems required.
  • Experience with ground transportation operations including DOT, OSHA and all related safety regulations.
  • Experience with hazmat shipping documentation and shipping requirements is required in this position.
  • Hazmat certification is required for this position
  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a transportation, tarffic, warehouse or distribution environment preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
Compensation: Will commensurate with experience.
