Upkeep of Equipment and Facilities Maintenance and repair equipment, vehicles, grounds and facilities located at, or associated witHthe Beef Units, including trucks, agricultural equipment, heavy equipment, small motors, sprayers, etc.
This also includes the construction of small buildings, fences, cattle handling equipment etc. and maintenance of roads, ditches, culverts etc. Includes welding, painting, pressure washing, etc.
Ordering and maintaining inventory of parts and supplies.
Keeping up to date maintenance and service records.
Maintaining fuel facilities and records. Ordering fuel and lubricants. Maintaining vehicle travel logs.
Assists in developing specifications for equipment to be purchased.
Maintains grounds, facilities, and equipment in a manner appropriate for public viewing. Includes mowing, trimming, sawing trees, etc.
Operation of Trucks and Equipment
Operating Heavy Trucks and equipment including Dump Trucks, Tractor-Trailer Semis, Loaders Dozers, Backhoes, Farm Tractors etc. Includes loading trailers and securing loads. This may include overnight travel (seldom).
Assist in implementation of all aspects of farm operations:
Includes: working cattle; tagging and caring for calves; assisting in calvings and other veterinary procedures; pasture and hayfield management duties (includes monitoring fields, spraying pesticides, mowing pastures, applying fertilizer, etc.); forage harvest and planting; livestock care and feeding; tractor and equipment operation; and other typical farm and ranch duties. Also assists in the implementation of experimental protocols for research projects.
Provides coverage and supervision of Units Includes supervision of part time and OPS employees on Saturdays and as needed during holiday coverage and/or essential activities. This position is considered essential personnel in emergency situations.
Performs other tasks deemed beneficial to the operation and upkeep of the units.
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and one year of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma and five years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Experience in operating farm equipment. Experience with cattle will be beneficial.
Class A CDL . The commercial driver’s license is needed for operating tractor-trailer used for hauling hay and equipment to various other units.
This position is covered by the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. Individuals applying for this position or incumbents of this position are required to hold a valid FL commercial driver’s license as a condition of employment. The act requires that all such individuals be subject to pre-employment and continuing post employment drug and alcohol testing. Failure to comply with such testing is grounds for dismissal from employment with the University.
Restricted herbicide and pesticide license.
Both licenses required within 30 days of employment
