This is work performing skilled and semiskilled
tasks related stormwater maintenance within Leon County. Work also involves
operating various County vehicles and equipment in performing duties.

FUNCTIONS: Performs unskilled and
semi-skilled tasks related to roadway, right-of-way, and stormwater maintenance
activities. Examples: operates various equipment such as chainsaws, vibroplate
packers, blowers, weedeaters, push mowers, pavement saws, and jack hammers; uses
and cares for various hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and brooms. Performs
job site safety by installing appropriate construction signs, using personal
safety protection and flagging traffic through jobsite. Cuts bushes, trees, and
removes sediment as required to maintain drainage systems. Prunes and removes
trees and shrubs. Mixes and lays riprap, sandbags, block and brick, in the
construction of headwalls, retaining walls, and bridge embankments, etc. Lays
sod/seed and hay in ditches and on shoulders as needed for stabilization.
Drives 4, 8, 12, and 16 yard dumptrucks to and from jobsite in the for special
projects; operates various construction and farm equipment such as tractors,
rollers, in the absence of the normal operator and for special projects as
required; drives crew truck hauling crew and materials to and from jobsite.
Performs other related duties as required.

Requires completion of the eighth
grade and six months of similar or related work experience. A high school
diploma may substitute for the required experience. Requires the ability to
follow oral and written instructions; use and care of hand tools; lift objects
and equipment in excess of 50 pounds; stand for long periods of time; and work
under various weather conditions. Must possess a valid Driver’s license
with a favorable driving record at time of hire. Must have successfully passed
the written exam for a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with an N
endorsement. Must secure a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with an N
endorsement within 90 days of being hired. Must be able to work four, 10 hour
days, Tuesday - Friday or Monday - Thursday.
