UNDER DESIGNATED SUPERVISION, INSTALLS, MAINTAINS AND REPAIRS VARIOUS TYPES OF AIR CONDITIONING, REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS. PERFORMS A VARIETY OF ELECTRICAL WORK BY FOLLOWING SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS THAT PROVIDE EXACT WORK SPECIFICATIONS. PERFORMS PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, ROUTINE REPAIRS AND EMERGENCY REPAIR WORK.

1. REGULARLY INSPECTS REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT SUCH AS FREEZERS, WALK-IN COOLERS, SODA FOUNTAINS, DRINK BOXES AND WATER FOUNTAINS UTILIZING GUAGES AND ANALYZING EQUIPMENT AND TESTS & SETS PRESSURE CONTROLS. RECHARGES EQUIPMENT AS REQUIRED. INSTRUCTS ASSOCIATES REGARDING LOAD CAPACITIES.

2. ANALYZES CAUSES OF BREAKDOWNS AND MAKES NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS & REPAIR TO COILS, GASKETS, HEAD VALVES AND SEALS. REPAIRS OR REPLACES WORN OUT MOTOR PARTS SUCH AS STARTER SWITCHES, POINTS, BRUSHES, EVAPORATORS AND EXPANSION VALVES. REPLACES OR REPAIRS CONTROLS ON BOTH AIR AND WATER-COOLED UNITS AND CHECKS FOR LEAKS. REPLACES BELTS. REALIGNS AND TIGHTENS DRIVES. CHECKS ELECTRICAL CONTROL CONTACTS AND RESETS CONTROL TO RESPOND TO TEMPERATURES DESIRED.

3. MAINTAINS REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS, INCLUDING LUBRICATION OF MOTORS AND FANS, ADJUSTMENT OF COOLANT AND OIL LEVEL, ADJUSTMENT AND ALIGNMENT OF DRIVES, LEANING OF CONDENSORS AND EVAPORATORS AND ADJUSTMENT OF OPERATING & SAFETY CONTROLS.

4. INSTALLS A VARIETY OF ELECTRICAL FITTINGS AND FIXUTRES SUCH AS LIGHTING FIXTURES, RECEPTACLES, SWITCHES, SENSORS, RELAYS AND ACTUATORS OF ELECTRICAL CONTROL SYSTEMS.

5. MAINTAINS AND REPAIRS VARIOUS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, INCLUDING AVARIETY OF APPLIANCES, LIGHTS, ELECTRICAL DRIVES, ALARMS AND SECURITY CIRCUITS, CLOCKS, ETC.

6. LOCATES AND DIAGNOSES TROUBLE IN FIRE ALARMS, LIGHTING, BUZZERS, CLOCKS, THERMOSTATS, ETC., WHICH MAY INVOLVE THE USE OF A VARIETY OF ELECTRICAL TEST EQUIPMENT.

7. INSURES A REGULAR SCHEDULE OF PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE IS ADHERED TO FOR ALL OPERATING EQUIPMENT. PERFORMS PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ON OPERATING EQUIPMENT.

8. PERFORMS ROUTINE REPAIRS ON A VARIETY OF OTHER EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES AND EMERGENCY REPAIR WORK, AS REQUIRED.

9. PREPARES LABOR AND MATERIAL COST ESTIMATES AND DEVELOPS BILL OF MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF REFRIGERATION/AIR CONDITIONING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT.

10. MAY BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM CARPENTRY, PAINTING, AND/OR PLUMBING FUNCTIONS REQUIRING A LEVEL OF SKILL AND RESPONSIBILITY CHARACTERISTIC OF WORK AT THE GRADE M-7 & BELOW.

11. MAY INSTALL, MAINTAIN AND REPAIR ELECTRONIC AND ELECTRO-MECHANICAL CASH REGISTERS AND PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT. PERFORMS PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, ROUTINE REPAIRS AND SIMPLE EMERGENCY REPAIRS, AS REQUIRED.

12. AS REQUIRED, PERFORMS TDY TRAVEL OF ONE OR MORE DAYS DURATION TO OTHER LOCATIONS.

13. MAY OPERATE MOTOR VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT MATERIAL AND ASSOCIATES.

14. INSURES COMPLIANCE WITH FIRE, SAFETY, SANITATION AND SECURITY REGULATIONS. INITIATES WORK ORDERS FOR REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE.

15. PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

NOTE: WORK IS ACCOMPLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH U. S. NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE (NEC) AS A MINIMUM STANDARD AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH LOCAL AND MILITARY STANDARDS WHEN THEY EXCEED THE REQUIREMENT OF NEC.

Job Qualifications
EDUCATION: HIGH SCHOOL OR EQUIVALENT.

EXPERIENCE: ONE YEAR PROGRESSIVELY RESPONSIBLE GENERAL EXPERIENCE, PLUS THREE YEARS SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IN REFRIGERATION AIR CONDITIONING, AND/OR ELECTRICAL WORK. MUST BE QUALIFID IN THE USE OF POWER AND HAND TOOLS OF THE TRADE AND POSSESS A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF WELDING, SOLDERING AND BRAZING. MUST POSSESS A VALID OPERATOR'S LICENSE AS REQUIRED BY LOCAL/STATE LAWS OR MILITARY REGULATIONS.

OTHER: ANY PERSON INVOLVED WITH SERVICING STATIONARY REFRIGERANT SYSTEMS MUST BE CERTIFIED BY AN EPA APPROVED TESTING PROGRAM AND MAINTAIN CERTIFICATIONAS A TYPE I AND II TECHNICIAN AS REQUIRED BY EPA'S FINAL RULE 608 (40 CFR, PART 82, SUPART I). ADDITIONALLY, THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO WORK WITH LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS (CHILLERS) WILL ALSO MAINTAIN THE TYPE III CERTIFICATION. CERTIFICATION AS A "UNIVERSAL TECHNICIAN" (CERTIFIED ASTYPE I, II AND III) IS PREFERRED BUT NOT MANDATORY UNLESS WORK INVOLVES LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS. (APPLICATION AT OVERSEAS LOCATIONS WILL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH REQUIREMENTS OF HOST COUNTY/INSTALLATION ENGINEERS.)
