This position is responsible for the maintenance of the city landfill and transfer station.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs maintenance functions, such as mowing grass, trimming weeds, picking up litter, and fueling and lubricating equipment.

Operates large equipment, including dust control water truck, tractors, and bucket loader.

Installs and maintains erosion measures such as planting seed and installing protective cover; installs rock dams, silt fences, and drain pipes.

Operates small gas and diesel powered equipment; operates hydroseeder, bush hog, dump truck, service truck, bucket loader, and pick-up truck.

Uses hand and power tools.

Picks up litter, washes vehicles, fuels and services equipment, and sprays roads.

Screens customers to ensure residency; provides referrals for non-residents and commercial customers; maintains customer sign-in log.

Monitors and inspects refuse to ensure it is acceptable and contains no hazardous materials.

Coordinates traffic flow and directs customers to the appropriate disposal container; ensures refuse is placed in proper container.

Coordinates refuse container and compactor transportation activities with department roll-off truck operators.

Operates electric / hydraulic refuse compactors in a safe and effective manner.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Designated as a critical workforce employee requiring attendance on the job or at a designated shelter throughout an emergency situation or disaster. These emergency situations may include, but are not limited to, hurricanes, ice/snow storms, or other such natural calamities.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; with six months of experience in general grounds maintenance and/or construction; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid class C driver's license.

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, and post-offer/pre-employment medical screen required. Verification of education, certification and licenses will be required prior to employment. Work Location: 1327 Dean Forest Road. Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

The final score on this examination will consist of rating of education and experience, plus veteran's preference, if eligible. The names of all competitors rate rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final score.
