Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement, in either the Sewer Maintenance Group or the Pipe and Manhole Repair Group.
In the Sewer Maintenance Group: Performs a variety of duties involved in the maintenance of wastewater collection system. Assists with the setup and operation of truck-mounted sewer rodding machines and combination pressure cleaner/vacuum machines. Visually inspects the sewer lines for defects, cleans sewer-damaged basements, responds to citizen trouble calls, and occasionally serves as crew leader. Shares responsibility for job site safety, including traffic and pedestrian control.
In the Pipe and Manhole Repair Group: Performs highway cave-in duties, pipe repairs and other related duties; works with VDOT paving schedules. Operates a pickup, crew step van, dump truck, and small engine equipment. Shares responsibility for job site safety, including traffic and pedestrian control.
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.
May be required to enter permitted confined spaces, using an OSHA, certified non-entry retrieval system, which includes a safety harness with a weight restriction of 310 pounds. Must be able to walk on uneven ground such as hills, wooded and marshy areas. Must be able to lift/slide up to 90 pounds with assistance. Must be capable of crouching or climbing in confined spaces.
The appointee to this position must complete a criminal background check and a medical examination to the satisfaction of the employer prior to appointment.
In the Sewer Maintenance Group: Experience working with combination unit sewer cleaners and sewer rodders. Experience using computers. Good communication skills.
In the Pipe and Manhole Repair Group: Experience with manhole and pipe repair, excavation and backfill, asphalt paving and wastewater collection system repair.
