THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO FILL MERIT SYSTEM (COUNTY FUNDED POSITIONS), UNCLASSIFIED POSITIONS, GRANT FUNDED POSITIONS, TEMPORARY, AND PART-TIME POSITIONS .
This is a work test position which requires successful completion of 90 days on the job training before being eligible for appointment to probationary status when positions are permanent.
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; six (6) months labor related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS :
Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License or proof of mobility equivalent may be requested; Commercial Driver’s License; Flagging Certification; First Aid Certification.

Incumbent performs general labor in the maintenance, repair, and construction of County properties, parks, landscapes, and other areas.
This is the first level in a three-level grounds and parks maintenance series. Maintenance Worker is distinguished from Grounds and Park Maintenance Worker in that this is an entry-level general laborer classification where the incumbent may work in a variety of departments, is required to have only basic maintenance related experience, and receives on-the-job training.
Performs manual labor, including using shovels, rakes, and hand tools to cleanup work sites, remove debris, cut grass and tree limbs, repair streets, repair and assemble fences, install and repair sewer lines and manholes, and assist in construction of various structures. Operates commercial landscape and construction equipment and vehicles and assures that equipment and vehicles are operated and maintained properly. Loads and unloads supplies and equipment. Mops, vacuums, and maintains County facilities. Assists with storm drainage control, ice removal, and emergency response duty. Performs minor repairs of interior and exterior of buildings. Maintains safety awareness at all times while working on traveled roadways. Flags and directs traffic in the streets and around roadways and bridges in the County during road repair.
Commercial landscape and construction related equipment; Safety precautions around mechanized equipment; Hand and power tools of the trade, including hammers, screwdrivers, saws, jackhammers, water pumps, compressors, and related equipment; Setting up safe work zones and flagging of traffic; Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Maintaining an effective work relationship with County workers and the general public; Understanding and completing instructions; Use of hand and power tools common in construction and maintenance work; Safe use and operation of equipment, vehicles, and materials; Communication and interpersonal techniques as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work directions.
