Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Operations Maintenance Supervisor, performing primarily the upkeep and maintenance of landscaped areas, and immediate village area. Secondarily perform general maintenance work on roads, Tribal facilities, buildings and equipment.

Supervision Exercised

  • Supervised by the Operations Maintenance Supervisor who takes direction from the Public Works Manager.
  • All other direction will be by Public Works Manager or Director.
  • When called upon, follow the direction of Tribal Administration to assume duties in preparation or clean-up for various functions.


  • Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform basic landscape and grounds development and maintenance tasks including, planting, cultivation, weeding, mowing, trimming, irrigation, fertilization, pruning and spraying.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair associated power equipment.
  • Layout, install, operate, maintain and repair associated irrigation systems.
  • Lay out and install landscape systems
  • Clean grounds and remove litter/debris, refinish paved surfaces, cut weeds, sweep walkways and shovel snow.
  • Responsible for the care, Maintenance and inventory of associated supplies and equipment owned by the property and/or the Pueblo of Sandia.
  • Using hand and power tools, perform basic building construction and repair tasks.
  • Operate, maintain and repair associated power tools and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities in all areas as necessary and as assigned.
  • Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
  • Responsible for daily upkeep of the property buildings and grounds which includes cleaning and removing of trash.
  • Responsible for thorough knowledge of the Pueblo of Sandia policies and property community policies.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

    Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

    Haul equipment, furniture, material, or items directed by Management or Tribal Administration.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess knowledge of plant characteristics, landscape layout and development.
  • Possess knowledge of principals of landscape maintenance.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and to supervise and direct work to others.
  • Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment used in landscape and grounds installations.
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in landscape maintenance.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools in building construction and repair.
  • Ability to make basic repairs to mechanical, plumbing and electrical installations.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to maintain equipment and supply inventory.
  • Knowledge of general safety rules, requirements, procedures and reporting requirements
  • Ability to perform duties considering the full use of Personal Protective Equipment without restrictions.


  • JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED Certification required.
  • Previous experience preferred but not required.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s license.
  • Must not have been convicted of a DUI in the past three year from the date of hire.
  • Additional certificates may be required depending on equipment operated.


  • Licensing Status

    Must be able to successfully pass a Backgroundand Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
