This position is responsible for assisting in all aspects of University Financial Reporting, including preparation of regular and special reports to all levels of management and all external financial reporting required by various regulatory agencies, as well as financial schedules and reports in compliance with professional standards. Will direct and lead a team of professional and technical staff, including assistance in hiring and training new staff employees, ensuring consistent application of the Performance Management Process while also making recommendations for salary increases and promotional opportunities and promoting professional development opportunities; will confer with university administrators, external auditors, and others concerning accounting/auditing issues. Will assist in the planning, design, and development of enhancements to the financial systems
      Qualifications
      : Minimum:
      • Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with major coursework in Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience
      • Experience: At least four or more years of progressively responsible experience, with at least three years of management and supervisory experience in accounting and auditing
      • Skills: Demonstrated capability to effectively lead professional and technical staff; thorough command of accounting standards, principles, and practices; excellent oral presentation and written communication skills; ability to manage a diverse professional and technical staff; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management; computer skills and thorough knowledge of financial accounting applications and personal computer software; demonstrated understanding of financial systems design and development issues; excellent skills in developing and communicating effective financial reports; leadership in training and continuing professional development; thorough knowledge of the role of the auditor and independent financial and compliance audits, including fund and grant accounting
      • Physical Mobility: Normally sedentary position with some mobility; i.e., able to travel to various campus locations
      • Environmental Conditions: Office Setting. Prolonged contact with computer terminal
      • Mental: Ability to handle complex financial accounting issues and situations in compliance with the highest professional standards and ethical behaviors, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction and service; ability to manage stress, working under pressure with short deadlines; ability to manage a diverse group of managerial, professional, technical, and clerical staff; demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments
      • Other: In order to meet deadlines, particularly during monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end closing periods, overtime may be required which could necessitate evening and weekend hours; ability to maintain or oversee accurate and detailed records; ability to organize and prioritize work for self and others
      Preferred:
      • Education: Master's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience; comprehensive understanding or training in the role of the professional auditor; knowledge and experience with quality improvement processes
      • Licenses: CPA Preferred
      • Experience: Experience in financial reporting, non-profit or fund accounting operations, endowment accounting, debt accounting, student accounting, and research and grant accounting, especially in higher education
