Our Department of Financial Accounting has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Manager of Financial Reporting
The Manager of Financial Reporting leads the UW Financial Reporting group, which is focused on University-wide reporting prepared in compliance with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) as well as the State Administrative and Accounting Manual (SAAM). Accounting personnel include three professional accountants and one student assistant. This position oversees all activities of these staff including performance, productivity and professional development.
The Manager of Financial Reporting is responsible for timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, supporting schedules and analysis supporting the UW Financial Report, as well as similar financial statements and schedules supporting the Office of Financial Management (OFM) Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
The position leads analysis and improvement of UW accounting processes. Responsibilites involve ownership and continual review of processes to establish better interfaces, as well as change leadership with respect to processes internal to Financial Reporting.
The Manager of Financial Reporting communicates externally with OFM to ensure compliance with all provisions of the SAAM in submission of accounting data to the State's Automated Financial Reporting System (AFRS) to accommodate the preparation of the CAFR. The position also coordinates responses to legislative staff regarding reconciling differences or other ad hoc inquiries about account balances and activity.
The position communicates with departments across the university regarding enhancements, updates, and changes to the accounting process. These discussions involve communication and interaction with individuals at various levels at the University, including heads of major departments, directors, managers, and staff.
The Manager of Financial Reporting is responsible for supporting preparation of University-wide reporting for the Board of Regents, external users of University financial information, and to the State of Washington.
This position is responsible for implementation of accounting processes that will allow the external state and independent auditors to conclude that the University's financial statements are fairly presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and to provide the University with a "clean" audit opinion that has impact on credit ratings by internal rating agencies such as Moody’s. The ratings affect the cost of borrowing which has a direct impact on University operations and capital projects.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field, plus a minimum six years’ experience with full scope accounting work including supervision of professional staff.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
CPA with experience in public accounting
