Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Direct Hire opportunity located in Sterling Heights, MI
Accountable for researching, designing, developing, and testing company products; providing technical support; developing engineering concepts for product features and new product offerings, participating in specially assigned projects; and assisting other personnel with their efforts.
Part of the group of engineers responsible for all mechanical design and engineering technical support related to the company's product lines. Normally receives assignments from the manager. Works closely with other mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software engineers and others in involved with design and technical support of company products.
Utilizes extensive creativity, mechanical design ability, and good interpersonal and management skills. The incumbent also utilizes familiarity with electrical, electronic, and manufacturing engineering disciplines.
Designs and coordinates the development of portions of equipment and systems. Among required activities in this area are:
Making design layouts
Performing engineering analysis
Specifying components, materials, and purchased parts
Making detailed part drawings
Assisting material control personnel
Assisting and directing work of other engineers as needed
Writing assembly procedures and operation sequences
Conducting or participating in design reviews and coordinating application of the design with affected individuals and departments divisions.
Evaluates technical feasibility and application, analyzes costs, and develops engineering proposals for special equipment and features requested by the Sales Department and/or customers, and for proposed new product offerings.
Creates designs that are functional, safe, reliable, economical, serviceable, and marketable. Adheres to project deadlines required to meet product shipment dates and communicates with personnel from all areas of the company. Must be able to plan and execute projects effectively. Also keeps abreast of new developments in technology and competitive products.
Although the work is subject to review by the Engineering Manager and through design reviews, the engineer has the freedom to make decisions regarding most aspects of the project. The engineer is expected to take the initiative in solving problems; and to make suggestions for product improvements, cost reduction, increased efficiency, etc.
Provides technical support for the following functions:
Sales - Supplies information regarding design capabilities and function; advises about application of special features, provides comments to customer specifications.
Manufacturing - Provides information and assistance with production problems; supplies guidance and training to production personnel; and helps develop manufacturing, assembly, and test products.
Service - Provides information and assistance to service organization to correct field performance problems; assists in determining part usage and alternate component selection; and provides technical information and advice to the Training Department for developing instruction manuals.
