Example of Duties:
Under the general direction of the Power Management Supervisor, exercises independent judgment to direct Operations foremen and linemen in the accomplishment of energizing ML&P's electrical power system on a 24 hour basis performing related work as required. Supervises and directs staff, including union represented foremen, linemen and crews to de-energize and re-energize high voltage electrical equipment on a daily basis as well as during emergency operations. Reacts quickly and effectively, maintaining sustained focus to handle system emergencies. Responds to emergencies such as outages, determining appropriate response and performing actual adjustments or directing staff to make adjustments in power distribution and transmission without contact with higher level supervision. Assumes duties of the Chief Power Dispatcher, Chief Distribution Dispatcher and Gas Controller in his/her absence.
Understands principles and practices of engineering, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of a moderate sized municipal electric utility, pertinent industry codes and standards regarding hazardous materials, wastes and related response techniques and environmental regulations. Will bring an in-depth knowledge of the principles of electric theory as it applies to the operation of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
Extensive use of industry specific software, computer and associated peripherals.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Special Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of experience in Power Dispatch, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for successful performance as a Chief Relief Dispatcher.
Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License by time of hire.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required licenses and certifications must remain current for the duration of employment.
