DEPARTMENT: Municipal Light & Power
HOURS OF WORK: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday
LOCATION OF WORK: 1200 E 1st Avenue, Anchorage AK

Example of Duties:

Responsible for all financial data and reporting for the utility. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) reporting standards, Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) reporting, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations, Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) Orders and Regulations, State of Alaska Regulations dealing with public utilities, Municipality of Anchorage Charter, Code and Policies and Procedures, Bond Covenants, Municipal Light and Power Tariff, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code regarding use of tax exempt bonds, and any other pertinent rules, regulations, codes and laws.

Implement new accounting policies and procedures to assure compliance. Coordinate financial requirements between ML&P and MOA Departments. Provide financial information and requirements for other ML&P Divisions. Assist ML&P Division Managers and employees in understanding and meeting the financial requirements. Review work of subordinates to ensure accuracy and completeness. Oversee all financial audits and assist with audits in other areas. Provide financial data for budget, regulatory proceedings and as requested by numerous others. Testify in Regulatory proceedings as required. Participate in multiple special projects. Provide direction, evaluation and supervision to staff.

Research and become familiar with oil and gas accounting rules, treatment of new wells (exploration vs. development), overlift/underlift settlements in regards to gas balancing agreement, regulatory treatments not in compliance with GAAP, depletion or depreciation, and other information related to an electric utility owning a portion of a gas field.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Special Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four year degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Finance or applicable related field, and five years of progressively responsible experience in Accounting.

Substitution :
Experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License.
