The Monitor Tech is a non-licensed employee of the Nursing Department who functions predominately in Labor and Delivery and Newborn Nursery, but will assist with Ward Clerk and Nurse Tech 1 work in other areas in Nursing Service. The Perinatal Monitor Tech provides assistance to and in collaboration with The RN and/or LPN in the Maternal Child Department, which may include clerical type duties, Nurse Tech I duties and housekeeping duties. (S)he is responsible to perform his/her duties in a responsible, professional manner according to his/her thorough knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and his/her own skills and knowledge. (S)he will perform all duties in compliance with approved standards of practice as defined by Gila Regional Medical center (GRMC), and the Joint Commission. The Perinatal Monitor Tech cares for adult, adolescent, neonate, and pediatric patients. The Perinatal Monitor Tech may be involved with geriatric members of patient families. The Perinatal Monitor Tech must deliver and maintain safe, prudent, and economical patient care and maintain patient confidentiality per GRMC policy and procedure. The Perinatal Tech must be able to function in both Labor and Delivery and Nursery Departments.
Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
CNA certification required
CPR Certification must be obtained within the initial employment period and be renewed every 2 years
Nurse Tech I or CNA experience preferred
Clerical and/or ward clerk experience preferred
Must be willing to learn sterile technique as it relates to preparation of instruments for birth, circumcision and other procedures
Must be willing to learn Fetal Monitoring and Relaxation Techniques
Must be willing to float to other Nursing units as needed to assist
Must pass Age-specific/Cultural competency video with a grade of 90% or greater (required within initial 90-day employment period)
Must know Restraint and Pain Management Policies and updates as it applies to this position (required within 90-day initial employment period)
