MTC Central Systems Tech - Located in Kansas City
Performs work involving training, installation, testing, configuration, and maintenance of communications systems in the Kansas City Regional Data Center. Systems involve network elements including voice and data equipment, alternate access, transmission, fiber and distribution systems to provide advance services and other high capacity services for Cox Communication and commercial business customers.
'Coordinates and performs installation and maintenance of video, voice and data related telecommunications equipment.
'Coordinates installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, including sonet, digital loop carriers and RDC telephony equipment.
'Responsible for ensuring complete system compliance with all applicable FCC regulations.
'Calibrates and maintains test equipment used in normal system and RDC operation to include optical power meters, spectrum analyzers, OTDR, OSA.
'Local full time on site support for technicians and engineers to analyze and troubleshoot voice, video, data, backbone transport and fiber systems in the RDC and customer premises for quick resolution of trouble problems in conjunction with the SOC or Network Operations Center.
'Escalates problems to local support when assistance is required.
'Assures budget control by monitoring losses due to production, time and/or accidents
'Assures company policies are understood and adhered to by personnel to include all safety procedures.
'Monitor and maintain accurate inventory of RDC network elements and equipment within element manager database.
'Assist in development and implementation of technical methods and procedures for cb, telephony, digital video and data services.
'Assist in RDC network administration and management.
'Work with local and corporate technicians / engineers on network integration and troubleshooting issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
'Experienced with SONET, digital modulations and digital transmission devices.
'Advanced knowledge of fiber optics testing, transport equipment (Infinera, ALU, Fujitsu, Atrica, Juniper) platforms.
'Skill to effectively communicate with internal, external customers and vendors.
'Ability to effectively operate all related environmental, security and access controls
'Working knowledge of personal computer operations and related software.
'Hands-on experience with telecommunications network equipment and test equipment.
'Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously.
'Experience in troubleshooting telephone, video and data communication equipment outages.
'Diagnose and resolve Network problems using sophisticated diagnostic tools.
' Knowledge of AC/DC theory and applications.
'Skill to use hand tools and small power tools.
'Ability to work on-call.
'Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
'Ability to climb ladders.
'Ability to operate vehicle and a drivers license in good standing.
'Proven interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
'High school diploma or equivalent.
'Three year experience working in a MTC or RDC environment or equivalent work experience.
'Previous exposure to fiber optic transport technology.
'Experience in dealing with customer problem resolution.
'See well enough to read manuals, operate meters, computers, hand tools, power tools and distinguish colors for fiber optic splicing.
'Hear well enough to converse on the telephone and two-way radio, communicate with customers and other employees.
'Speak well enough to converse on telephone and two-way radio.
'Body movement and mobility to climb, balance on ladder and other high locations. Mobility, flexibility to crouch and crawl in tight places.
'Dexterity to use hand tools and small power tools, complete necessary forms in a legible manner.
'Strength to carry ladder weighing up to 70 pounds and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
