As a machine-learning researcher, you will work with a world-class multidisciplinary team to develop and deploy scalable predictive, reasoning and data mining algorithms and software for diverse industrial applications, including anomaly detection, diagnostics & prognostics on sensor, video, imagery and text data from Jet engines, Gas Turbines, Locomotives, Healthcare Machines and much more.
Collaborate with senior machine learning researchers; Provide technical expertise to address supervised and unsupervised leaning problems in an applied research environment. Develop & deploys modern machine learning and statistical methods (CART and Random Forests, clustering and classification algorithms, Bayesian models, neural nets, SVM etc.) for finding patterns/models from industrial data, e.g. operation data monitored from industrial machines, processes, environments, etc. Familiarity with large data sets, cloud based development and deployment, open source practices and frameworks and experience in putting intelligent an application in production is desirable.
Provide technical execution to design of machine learning algorithms/solutions to solve industrial problems at GE.
Determine methodologies needed; apply such methodologies (e.g. neural nets, CART, Bayesian methods, etc.) on monitoring, classification, bioinformatics, computer vision and related research domains.
Define data needs, evaluate data quality, perform and critique appropriate statistical analyses using software such as R, SAS, MATLAB, and/or Splus. Explore, determine & develop technical approaches to be used and apply them on major challenges .
Interface closely with GE Business counterparts to understand/define requirements, domain knowledge/models, and data needs.
Effectively communicate technical analyses and results.
Support proposals to respond to external funding opportunities.
Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, applied mathematics OR other relevant “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA.
Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.
Must be willing to travel.

Strong research credentials demonstrated by significant research, relevant publications in top journals and conferences.
Demonstrated independent problem solving skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong understanding of foundational theories and applications of machine learning, data mining, statistics or other mathematical data analytics techniques.
Interest/Experience in applying quantitative data analytics techniques to industrial problems.
Programming skills/ experience in high level languages like Java, Hadoop and Cloud computing, highly preferred.
Experience in developing machine learning packages with modern programming languages.
Experience with designing and prototyping algorithms on industrial data.
Interest/Experience in large data sets, cloud based architectures and deployment frameworks for machine learning algorithms. Open source efforts in machine learning.
Experience in relational databases & SQL concepts. Compute platforms like Matlab.
Ability to take initiative and deliver tangible results under deadlines.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction and desire to learn new technologies.
Flexibility of working across all functions/levels as part of a team.
Excellent teamwork and desire to understand the business needs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
