GENERAL SUMMARY

Sets up and operates CNC and/or manual machines including but not limited to vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, grinders, and gear cutting equipment. Work from complicated component drawings, routers, and/or verbal instructions to produce parts that meet specifications. Measure and inspect parts to verify that they are acceptable. Must possess practical metal cutting knowledge to make sound decisions in fabricating parts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Typical)
•Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
•Set up and adjustment equipment as needed to product acceptable parts.
•Operates the machines to perform machining in accordance with design drawings, sketches and oral instructions using basic shop math.
•Uses supplied and personal measuring devices for checking components for conformity to previous instructions.
•Assists in training of other machinists as needed.
•Works with a minimum of supervision.
•Maintains assigned equipment and complies with preventative maintenance activities where applicable.
•Performs assignments maintaining safe conditions throughout the work area and any other area affected.
•Plans and lays-out work from design drawings, sketches and oral instructions.
•Uses basic shop math and has a working knowledge of trigonometry for figuring various angles, radius’, lengths, and other dimensional aspects of a part.
•Sets-up and adjusts any machine for a variety of short run or production runs to machine any type of component.
•Uses supplied and personal measuring devices for checking components for conformity to previous instructions.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

SPECIFICATIONS
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
•2-5 years machining experience
•Experienced in use of inspection and measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers (OD, ID, depth) and telescope gauges.
•Ability to read component prints and routers.
•Basic math skills
EXPERIENCE ON JOB TO ATTAIN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE, BUT NOT REQUIRED
•Computer proficiency.
•Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques.
•Familiarity with a variety of machining and assembly processes.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
