Maintenance Assistant Allen County, IN -

This position is full time, classified, non-exempt and covered under the Allen County Employee Handbook.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, shifts may vary, on call required.
Essential Functions:
Plumbing - Performs daily work orders to replace and repair a large number and variety of special confinement facility plumbing fixtures.
Electrical - Troubleshoots, maintains and makes repairs to a large number of sometimes complex electrical components and electrical equipment failures.
Security Systems - Troubleshoots failures or issues with jail cameras, intercom equipment, door controls, security system and fire alarms, and all relevant components.
HVAC - Troubleshoots and repairs equipment including replacing belts, motors, lean coils / vents, replace filters and lubricate as necessary.
Lock Repair - Troubleshoots and repairs electromagnetic and mechanical locks.
Welding - Uses electric or gas welders / torches for repairing a variety of broken equipment, stainless steel, copper, etc; including kitchen equipment and furniture.
Groundskeeper - Maintains the ground by way of mowing; trimming; removing weeds and leaves; caring for trees and bushes; removing snow from sidewalks; drives; and parking lots and removing discarded trash from the property.
Carpenter: Builds, repairs or replaces shelves; cabinets or drawers as needed. Makes repairs to concrete items; floor and ceiling tiles and drywall. Repairs and manufactures items made from wood or metal.
Painting: Preps and repaints walls, ceilings and floors using brushes, rollers and sprayers.
Janitor: Sweeps, mops, strips and waxes the floors as needed. Cleans and scrubs marks from walls; doors; etc. as needed. Keeps cleaning supplies available for trustees; confinement officers and nurses as needed.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of repairing specialized plumbing fixtures including water closets consisting of electronic controls.
Knowledge of multi-use meters and diagnostic tools for equipment testing and repair.
Ability to troubleshoot and replace or clean various parts on the HVAC System including belts; filters; motors; pump; condenser coils and electro-mechanical controllers.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair video security systems; fire systems; audio systems; electromagnetic and mechanical door or locking systems.
Knowledge of welding; painting; carpentry; lawn equipment and various other equipment.
Minimum three years experience and should have the following certification, licenses, or registration:
EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification
and Valid Drivers License to drive maintenance vehichle.
Successful completion of Jailers Academy within one year of employment.
Must be able to lift approximately 40-60 lbs.
Supplemental Information: Must be able to operate the following machinery/equipment:
welder/torch, lawn mower, hedge trimmer, commercial floor cleaning equipment, hammer jack, power washing equipment, power tools.
Incumbent is exposed to extreme temeratures, dangerous equipment, chemicals, confined spaces, noise, noxious odors and fumes, and environmental hazards.
Incumbent must be able to lift, bend, push/pull loads, reach, kneel, crawl and climb ladders.
