This position is located at Raleigh Maintenance Complex, Wake County, Raleigh, NC; and will primarily work at OSDT/Pharmacy Complex in Apex but could assist at other locations as deemed necessary by the supervisor. The primary purpose of this position is to perform preventive & routine corrective maintenance tasks, ensuring that assigned systems, equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe & efficient manner. This position is required to have multiple trade skills to allow the individual to deal with the variety of maintenance tasks that will have to be dealt with on a routine basis at the various prison facilities within the region. This position is required to function at the journey level for electrical & at least one other trade preferably HVAC/Refrigeration or plumbing & perform at the semi-skilled level for other trades. He/she will be expected to supervise the work of skilled, semi-skilled & unskilled labor (including inmates) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks. .

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

The position requires a working knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in general maintenance and repair of building, equipment and machinery; working knowledge of low pressure heating plant operations. Skill in the use of acetylene & electric welding equipment. Ability to operate the more common types of machine shop equipment. Ability to supervise the work of semi-skilled, unskilled, or skilled workers. This position will be required to perform at the journey level for electrical and at least one other trade; preferably HVAC/Refrigeration or plumbing and perform at the semi-skilled level for a variety of other trades. Person with an electrical contractor’s license preferred.

May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I,II,III or Universal Technician as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of progressive experience in the assigned trades areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F. .
