Internal Posting available for current Department of Environment and Natural Resources employees only : This position will serve as the park maintenance manager at Stone Mountain State Park, responsible for the major and minor repairs to facilities, equipment and vehicles; supervision of maintenance mechanics and other sources of labor; maintenance and operation of maintenance areas and water systems. Directly responsible for planning and supervising all major maintenance, trails and capital improvement projects. Performs journeyman level work in carpentry, plumbing, building construction and power equipment. Performs semi -skilled experience in electrical, HVAC, small gasoline engine repair, and auto mechanics. Prepares project estimates for fabrications and installation and prepares bids for and monitors informal sub-contract work. Must be able to supervise and train subordinate employees and participate in conducting routine housekeeping/custodial tasks, maintenance of buildings and facilities, and grounds maintenance. Serves as park safety coordinator and prepares and presents training programs and conducts hazard analyses. Some weekend and holiday work is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and material used in the general maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Demonstrated skilled experience in plumbing, carpentry, building construction and power equipment operation and repair.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge in electrical work.
  • Physical strength sufficient to move relatively heavy objects (up to 90 pounds) and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time.
  • Must be able to articulate safety issues and park information to visitors.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s license within 90 day of hire date to drive various classes of vehicles and tractors.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain c-well operator certification with 36 months of hire.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain wastewater operator certification within 12 months
    • Weekend and holiday work required.
  • Applicant must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to meet DENR Fleet Safety guidelines.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High School or General Educational Development diploma and two years progressive experience in the assigned trades’ areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications/licenses: must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s license within 90 day of hire date; a c-well operator certification with 36 months of hire date; and wastewater operator certification within 12 months of hire date.
