This position will be located at Carteret Correctional Center in Newport, NC and is assigned to the Eastern Region Maintenance Yard’s S.E. Branch Maintenance Yard, Clinton in Sampson County. The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, alter, and repair electrical systems & components and one other trade preferably HVAC/Refrigeration & perform at the semi-skilled level for other trades at various correctional facilities and institutions as well as juvenile and support facilities within his/her assigned regions. As a member of the PM and Maintenance Group this position will normally perform his/her assigned tasks at the journeyman level of the electrical trade.; however, at times this position will be expected to cross train and perform or assist in the performance of other construction or maintenance related tasks as assigned by the group supervisor. He/she will be expected to supervise skilled, semiskilled, or unskilled labor (including inmates) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
This position requires a working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of electrical systems and one other trade preferably HVAC/Refrigeration, a working knowledge of safety precautions of the electrical trade, skilled in the use of tools, material, and equipment commonly used in the performance of electrical work. Position has the ability to assume responsibility of lead worker in the performance of electrical repair and installation. The ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of progressive experience in the assigned trades areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F. .
