This position is assigned to the Western Region Maintenance Yard in Lenoir, NC and is located at Stonewall Jackson Juvenile Detention Center in Concord, NC and assigned to the Facility PM Group. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that assigned systems and equipment are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. This position is required to have multiple trade skills to allow the individual to deal with the variety of construction and maintenance tasks that will have to be dealt with on a routine basis at the various facilities within the region. This position is required to function at the journey level for electrical & at least one other trade preferably HVAC/Refrigeration or Plumbing & perform at the semi-skilled level for other trades. He/She will be expected to supervise skilled, semi-skilled & unskilled labor (including inmates) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks. Must be familiar with the NC Building Code Manuals, OSHA regulations and safety policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

This position requires a working knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in general construction and maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and machinery, working knowledge of emergency generators & plant operations, skill in the use of acetylene and electric welding equipment, and the ability to supervise the work of semi-skilled, unskilled, or skilled workers. This position will be required to perform at the journey level skill for Electrical and at least one other trade, preferably HVAC/Refrigeration or Plumbing and perform at the semi-skill level for a variety of other trades.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of progressive experience in the assigned trades areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Management Preferences:

Preference will be given to the applicants with Backhoe, Trenching and Grounds Equipment experience
