The mission of Facilities Services is to assist in the development of a physical environment supportive of teaching, research, and Administration on The University of Montana campus through the operation and maintenance of the state funded Physical Plant and providing services to the auxiliaries as required; to provide planning and construction services for all of the campus in support of the development and enhancement of the University’s Physical Plant; and to assure compliance with all codes related to facilities, construction, renovations, maintenance, and operations of all campus facilities. This Mission of support includes long-term preservation of facilities, assets, and equipment.
This position requires knowledge of the methods, materials, practices, equipment machines, and techniques used in the trade of plumbing; ability to follow oral and written instructions, work from drawings, blueprints, and sketches to assess material and equipment needs and possess knowledge and practice of safety rules related to the trade; may need to fill in for supervisor when absent; works independently and efficiently in difficult situations.
Must have a valid State of Montana plumbing license (include a copy of a valid State of Montana plumbing license)
Experience in the standard practices, methods, and processes in the use of materials, tools, and equipment of the trade
Experience in maintenance of hot water boiler systems, controls and circulation pumps
Experience with forced air furnace maintenance and gas, steam, and electric water heaters
Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment (dish washing machines, gas appliances, etc.)
Experience as a service plumber, both commercial and residential
Experience with sewer mains and building drains
Demonstrated good customer service and communication skills
Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Montana drivers license
Experience in and ability to use power tools both fixed and portable, hand tools, vehicles, Drills, Saws, Grinders, Threading machines, Hoist, Sewer machines, Welders, Gas Torches, Bead Blaster, Pneumatic tools
Knowledge of safety rules and procedures related to the trade
Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work from drawings, blueprints and sketches

Lifting: Ground to 60 inches, up to 55#. Ground to overhead, up to 50#.
Carrying: Front carry up to 75# for 10 feet or less. Front carry, or 1 handed carry, of up to 75#, up and down 2 flights of stairs.
Pushing and pulling forces required (during the use of tools): 65 # sustained push, and 75# sustained pull.
Lifting: Ground to 60 inches, up to 100#.
Lifting: 16 inches to 32 inches, up to 90#
Carrying: At knee height, 90# for up to 10 feet.
Carrying: 100# on shoulder for up to 100 feet.
Squatting occasionally, and kneeling, crouching, squatting or sitting on the floor to work at low levels, for a prolonged period of time.
Static trunk forward bending and / or twisting occasionally, from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.
Reaching frequently with your arms in all directions.
Working overhead occasionally from various positions (standing, squatting, and kneeling).
Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder or scaffold.
Walking various distances throughout the day on even and uneven surfaces, distances up to 1000 feet.
Use of various grip circumferences (up to 5 ½ inches), and strengths (up to 75# of grip force in both hands), as well as static grip positions, during the use of various tools, loosening and tightening pipes of various sizes, using wrenches, and while manipulating various work materials.
Use of foot controls and hand controls to drive and operate pickup truck.
Manual steadiness, dexterity, speed, and coordination:
Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp and manipulate objects.
Wrist-Finger Speed — The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment.
High school graduation and completion of apprenticeship training in the plumbing trade and two (2) years experience as a journey-level maintenance service plumber, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
