Monitors a variety of Maintenance Systems to insure proper operations. Performs routine maintenance to buildings and equipment, grounds keeping, and provides minor repairs, adjustments, resetting or troubleshooting of systems.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license required.
  • Certified able to wear a respirator.
  • Must maintain confidentiality including HIPAA/HITECH information.
  • Certified for airport driving within first three months of employment.
  • First Aid/CPR within first six months of employment Maintenance Specialist I

  • Progressive responsible training and experience in setting which provides the individual the ability to perform preventive maintenance and repair in mechanical areas (boilers, plumbing, painting, carpentry, water treatment, sewage treatment, heating and air conditioning, automotive and electrical).
  • Successful completion of Class III Boiler licensure within the first year of employment.
  • Successful completion of provisional certification for Water Treatment within the first year of employment.
  • Successfully complete Forklift Operator and Heavy Equipment operator training within first year of employment
  • Obtain 40 hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification
  • Maintenance Specialist II – Rotating Shift

  • Must have a Class III Boiler license.
  • Must be provisionally certified for Water Plant Operator.
  • Must be qualified for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
  • Must be proficient with DDC Building Controls.
  • Able to independently work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintenance Specialist III– Rotating Shift

  • Must be fully qualified and capable of operating independently. Progressive responsible training and experience in setting which has provided the individual the ability to perform preventive maintenance and repair in mechanical areas (boilers, plumbing, carpentry, water treatment, heating, air conditioning, and electrical).
  • Obtain Class II Fire Extinguisher certification
  • Must be a Provisionally Certified Wastewater Operator.
  • Must have advanced training in Digital Diagnostic control (DDC) systems.
  • Able to receive and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to independently work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.


  • Essential Functions:
    • Maintenance Specialist I
      1. Maintain BBAHC campus grounds, including grass cutting, snow removal, sanding walkways and drivable surfaces.
      2. Operates and repairs low, and medium pressure oil fired boilers/furnaces, sewage disposal, water treatment and standby generator. Maintains records of gage readings, regulates flow of water, diesel fuel storage, steam, air, and oxygen.
      3. Assures that the sewage disposal system is operating properly and providing secondary treatment.
      4. Performs basic water treatment operations-including water analysis, chemical mixing and maintaining operational logs.
      5. Performs routine preventive maintenance such as cleaning, oiling and greasing pumps, motors, generators, fans, and other equipment; changing pumps, valves, pipes, and assisting the equipment repairer in making major repairs.
      6. Infrequently performs tasks such as painting, pipe covering, motor vehicle operation and minor plumbing repairs. Once qualified, responds to requests for patient transport to and from airport. Snow removal from grounds, roads, roofs, and sidewalks.
      7. Other duties as assigned.
    • Maintenance Specialist II –Rotating Shift All Maintenance Specialist I functions plus
      8. Water Treatment Plant functions: Analysis for pH, iron, manganese, potassium permanganate, fluoride and chlorine residuals. Make adjustments for analysis deficiencies. Mix treatment chemicals as needed. Backwash filters as needed. Accurately fill out appropriate logs.
      9. Assures that high and low pressure steam boilers adequately heat the hospital and provide steam for sterilizing equipment. Maintains boiler water levels and steam pressures as per requirements and prescribed limits. Assures that they meet demands for heat and hot water. Serves as sole operator during a swing or night shift.
      10. Other duties as assigned.
    • Maintenance Specialist III – Rotating Shift All Maintenance Specialist I and Maintenance Specialist II functions plus:
      11. Provides building and equipment maintenance throughout all hours/shifts of operation. Three shifts consist of Day: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Evening: 4:00 p.m. to Midnight, Nightshift: Midnight to 8:00 a.m.
