Performs highly complex (senior-level) restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. Work involves building repair, renovation, restoration, and alteration for the designated trade skill. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Performs electric and/or electronic equipment maintenance and repair work. (35%)

2. Plans work schedule for building repair, renovation, or restoration projects. (5%)

3. Inspects structures, evaluates work to be performed, and determines best method in performing maintenance and repair work. (5%)

4. Requisitions materials and equipment and maintains records of materials used. (15%)

5. May act as lead worker on construction, maintenance, or repair projects; tests repairs. (10%)

6. May match material to be used with that already in structure to retain true historic appearance and finish. (5%)

7. May perform electrical work to modernize a building or adapt it to new uses while retaining original appearance. (5%)

8. May perform workshop operations to fabricate specialized items needed for project work. (5%)

9. May inspect equipment, machinery, and building accessories and appliances. (5%)

10. May assign specific duties to other maintenance staff. (5%)

11. Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. (5%)

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings and equipment; of building materials; of welding procedures and techniques; and of fire and safety regulations.
  • Ability to organize preventive maintenance programs; to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment; to interpret drawings, diagrams, and blueprints; to communicate effectively; and to supervise the work of others.
  • Experience in building maintenance and repair work.
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, supplemented by vocational training in a designated trade, is generally preferred.
  • Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Current Texas driver’s license required.
Copy of Type 3 DPS (5 year history) record is required.
Criminal history background check and drug screen required.

Initial Selection Criteria:
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, supplemented by training in the operation of electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment relating to designated building trades is generally preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance and repair and in the operation and maintenance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and welding equipment used in the designated building trades.
  • Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
