Position: Maintenance Supervisor
Direct Manager Title: Maintenance Manager
This position is responsible for the technical and operational support of maintenance activities for all areas of manufacturing. This position will drive a strong and robust Progressive Maintenance Program through implementation of Lean Enterprise methodology. This position will develop, implement and analyze maintenance methodologies to develop people, process and tool capability in terms of maintenance practices to improve factory efficiency and reliability, increase asset utilization, reduce costs and guarantee adherence to HS&E standards. This role is responsible for the development of a loss control and prevention culture, aiming at continuous improvement.
Provide leadership (supervision, guidance, coaching, training and technical support) to assigned teams.
Plan, organize and manage activities of team/s and communicate clear expectations regarding department and individual goals.
Coach and develop Maintenance Lead position in support of day to day operations.
Conduct daily communication meetings with maintenance teams to provide feedback on performance, goal progression, safety topics, operational results and business updates and seek input from maintenance technicians on methods to impact efficiency, accuracy and safety.
Identify barriers to performance and assist Maintenance Manager in identifying/analyzing root cause and effect and develop action plans to resolve.
Complete Performance Reviews, Development Plans, and counselling of maintenance technicians.
Manage multiple shifts while being consistent with expectations.
Must be flexible to work any shift as assigned on an exception basis.
Manage workforce selection, placement and retention.
Develop and Implement processes and procedures working with the Maintenance manager or cross-functionally with other supervisors to improve efficiency across Value Streams.
Develop “continual training” strategy for maintenance workforce within area and provide the time required for training.
Publish standard maintenance performance metrics (KPI’s) that align with the Company’s KPI’s
Lead Maintenance KPI efficiency projects
Assist in the development of quarterly/annual department MRO budgets.
Additional responsibilities as needed
Safety Total Incident Rate (TIR) 95% annual average.
Reduce Breakdown (BD) downtime by 40%/yr. by improving Mean Time Between Breakdowns (MTBBD).
Reduce BD occurrences by 40%/yr. by improving MTBBD.
Increase Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) to target for respective areas
Reduce Overtime < 5%
Reduce Changeover time by 25% year over year.
Knowledge / Abilities / Skills
Background in manufacturing/packaging maintenance and Lean implementation
Deep understanding of manufacturing performance, maintenance and Lean concepts
Advanced knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS (Manager +)
Basic cost analysis and business/financial plans (budget)
Knowledge of safety regulations and equipment troubleshooting
Functional / Technical Skills:
Strong project management skills (planning, organizing, and resource allocation).
Strong analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills (A3, PDCA, 8D, 5Y, BDA).
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Strong training and facilitation skills.
Functional capability in basic statistics, process measurement, and financial calculations.
Ability to work with and tactically influence all levels of the organization to establish best practices and standards in maintenance and execution.
Ability to create and influence change across maintenance functions in plant leading toward total maintenance employee participation in Lean maintenance activities as the way to conduct daily business.
Ability to motivate, foster teamwork and provide positive reinforcement to a team/s.
Ability to effectively train, coach and provide performance feedback.
Ability to work as a team member with other supervisors and management.
Ability to analyze moderately complex data (maintenance KPI metrics).
Ability to handle stress and multitask in fast-paced, high volume manufacturing environment.
Ability to understand and use technical documents and OEM manuals on complex equipment.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions (RCPS).
Ability to recognize potential issues with equipment, processes, and people.
Associate in Industrial Maintenance Technology or similar field from an accredited college or university
BA/BS degree in a technical field preferred
8-10 years of industrial maintenance experience
5 years of supervisory experience
Exposure to Lean or Six Sigma (required), Green Belt or higher certification (desired)
A combination of experience and education may be considered.
Led technical teams of greater than 10 people preferred.
